Obsession Confession

I have a confession about an obsession.

Sometimes, when my husband is out of town on business, I play video games.

But not just any video game, a very specific one. I have been teased relentlessly by Paul and some friends of ours about this game (not to mention some mild remarks from my family), so I figured that it was time I owned up to this behavior. Plus, you can gain a better understanding of what I am talking about when I write the name: "Harvest Moon".

Doesn't it just sound nice? Apparently there are some songs with this phrase in the song lyrics or title, but I have never heard them, so I cannot relate to any feeling evoked by this phrase due to those songs. I can only attest to mine.

For those of you who don't know, Harvest Moon is a Nintendo game in which you play a farmer/rancher. The only major problem with the game (besides sucking away all my time) is that the worldview is completely and utterly skewed, but that aside-it's fun!

Paul laughs at me for pretending to pull weeds and milk cows, but the truth of it is: it's relaxing after 11 hours away from home. Not to mention, it's a strategy game, and I can take my time with it (unlike those crazy racing/shooter games where you have to make hand-eye coordination related decisions lickity split!).

Plus, I think the girl character kind of looks like me:

You know, if I take off my glasses...

And had a waist smaller than my head...

And eyes that take up a third of my face...

So that's that; my name is Jennifer and I'm obsessed with my RPG.

This morning, as we are heading out of town to see my brother in Myrtle Beach this afternoon, we were scrambling to get everything together (at the last minute, of course; is there any other way?).

Since Paul normally spends almost 3 full hours at home alone after I leave in the morning (oh, the joys of driving an hour to work), I asked him if he would put on a load of laundry. As I was talking to him, he was fiddling with his new cell phone. He does this often, and since he was still responding to my comments, I thought nothing of it.

No sooner had he reluctantly agreed to my request and walked away did I receive a text message from my husband (that he had apparently been typing while I talked).

It read:
"laundry is stupid"

Oh, Pauly...

Phones and A Wild (Animal) Weekend

We got new phones! They're touch screens! You should have seen us this weekend. Seriously. We played with them for two. days. straight. No lie. We were almost content to sit next to each other on the couch web-surfing, picture-taking, and video-texting on our new phones. I even texted Paul when he was getting into the shower, and I didn't feel like making the two-room trek...I know, I know, and I wonder how I've gained 20 pounds. But without further adieu:

Why, yes, that is the top to the rice cooker I received for my birthday in the upper left corner of the picture...I can't believe you remembered!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To top off the arrival of our toys, we house-sat for a couple from our church. They have a new puppy:and no one was more excited than Paul to play with her...

Here he is retrieving his sock. Don't let the lecturing posture fool you; he was almost thrilled that she was stealing his socks all weekend. Me? Let's just say after an initial nameless incident, Jenn's shoes were zipped up into the suitcase for the remainder of our stay (all 8 pairs).

Actually, yes! That is Paul's brand new cell phone in his hand as he allows the dog to jump on him...
Apparently waiting for Paul to get out of the shower was just too much...

They did, in fact, have other animals. A sweet, sweet dog whose only wish was to get away from the puppy's constant antics:And some cats, of which we only saw one the whole time we were there:
All in all, it was a fun and easy weekend....and yes, all pictures were taken on our brand new phones, thanks.

Also, it should be noted that yesterday on my way into my empty house, I saw a ragged cat that, I swear, looked like a rabid monkey from my car...and I am not even kidding.
